Join The Kent Historical Society and Kent Public Library for this presentation from historian Michael J. F. Sheehan!
In March of 1777, the British opened the campaign with a raid up the Hudson River, attacking Peekskill. At the time, Peekskill held a massive amount of food, goods, and other stores destined for Washington’s fledgling Continental Army. In desperation, the Americans burned what they could not defend. When reinforcements arrived, Continental General McDougall sent the famous Col. Marinus Willet to drive off the British in a brave action. The Hudson Highlands, being alarmed, got reinforcements over the following days. Some troops came from as far away as those under the command of Col. Henry Ludington.
Historian Michael J. F. Sheehan will deliver an illustrated lecture on how this event rocked the Hudson Valley.
