Event Details

Teens ages 14-18 are invited to the Kent Public Library on Monday, November 24th from 5-6:30 pm for an exciting Comic Book Character Design Workshop! Every attendee will go home with a $10 Michaels gift card!

Meet James Derung – visual arts teacher, designer, and lifelong creative. With over 17 years of teaching experience, James is passionate about visual storytelling, inspired by cultures around the world and how they shape art. His background in graphic design fuels his love for blending technology with traditional and experimental art techniques.

In this one-night workshop, teen artists will dive into the world of comic book character design. From superheroes to villains, students will explore how real-life events and personal experiences influence the creation of powerful, symbolic characters. Through fun discussion and hands-on illustration, they’ll bring their own unique heroes (or villains) to life.

Bring your ideas, your style, and your story — let’s create something legendary. Up, up, and away! Registration is required.
